Another Day of Pennsylvania History
Thursday, September 30, 2010

The Daniel Boone Homestead, located near Reading, Pennsylvania, is a state historic site. Daniel Boone's parents first settled the site in 1730, and the region was populated by many diverse people--English, Welsh, Scotch Irish, Swedes, Huguenots, Germans, and Lenape Indians. Daniel was born there in 1734 and spent his first 16 years there before his family migrated to North Carolina. Today the site tells the story of Daniel's youth and the saga of the region's 18th century settlers by contrasting their lives and cultures. This regioon left a lasting impact on Daniel Boone's life and on the history of Pennsylvania.

Emily's - This historic 1827 building is located about 5 minutes south of Reading. Its Victorian setting welcomes visitors and begs them to relax. The atmosphere of Emily's is by no means its only asset. The food keeps pace with the wonderful setting. Its award winning menu is sure to please any palate. The restaurant is named for the ghost that some claim resides in this 200-year-old building that previously functioned as a hotel and post office.
The Yuengling Brewery, Pottsville, Pennsylvania, is America's oldest brewery; it was established in 1829. Through five generations the brewery has remainewd unique among breweries, distinguished by its culture, heritage, traditions, and portfolio of brands. Now, the sixth generation is actively learning the business from the ground floor up. During the tour visitors will observe various facets of the production process and sample the finished product at the tour's end. NOTE: wear closed shoes only -- no sandals, flip-flops, or other shoes with openings (front, back, or sides). The tour has many steps and is not handicapped accessible.
