Summer History Camp
Hanover's first History Camp is shaping up to be a real adventure!
June 14-18, 2010
9:00 AM - Noon
Campers will be provided a lite lunch each day
Day One - June 14, 2010
The camp will introduce life as it was in 1783, in the red brick Neas House on Chestnut Street. On site, campers will spend the half-day learning about the chores, foods, medicines, games and lessons of the time. Gardens, clocks and preservation of artifacts will be explored.
Day Two - June 15, 2010
Campers meet at the Hanover Shoe Farm to tour this amazing century-old business that has brought great recognition to Hanover. The sight of fields filled with mares and foals and stables with winning Trotters make for a memorable morning!
Day Three - June 16, 2010
The landscape at the Warehime/Myers Mansion is an exceptional example of legacy planting. Campers compare 1783 Neas gardens to the 1911 WMM landscape. Tree walk/talks. Leaf studies. Campers will plant something to take home.
Day Four - June 17, 2010
Campers begin in the Carriage House to learn about transitions. Horse/Automobile, Gas/Electricity, Outhouses/Plumbing. In 1911 Mr. Myers built a very unique house. Campers will identify architectural styles and construction materials. They will learn about the Hanover Shoe Factory and the Myers family community involvement.
Day Five - June 18, 2010
Campers will consider the value of the Warehime-Myers Mansion as a gift to the to the Historical Society for future generations to enjoy. They will tour all the rooms of the house and make observations on features of each room. Afterwards, there will be a scavenger hunt on the Mansion's lawn. After the hunt, we will enjoy a luncheon in the formal dining room where each child will recount lessons learned during the Camp and what role each would have liked to have played in the Hanover heritage.
