Tour of Historic Baltimore Churches
Friday, April 30, 2010

Please join us for a day of history and facinating architecture as we travel to Baltimore to tour three of its exceptional churches.

The first stop on the tour is Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church. It was dedicated on December 4, 1870. With its vaulted ceiling and unparalleled collection of thirteen Tiffany stained glass windows dating from 1905 to 1914, it is one of the most significant buildings in Baltimore and is considered a treasure of art and architecture. We hope to hear the E.M. Skinner organ which dates back to 1930. Next we travel to the historic Baltimore Basilica, built from 1806-1821. America's First Cathedral, officially known as the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, quickly became a symbol of the country's newfound religious freedom After lunch at the Harbor, we tour Lovely Lane United Methodist Church which is considered the Mother Church of American Methodism. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the church was designed by Stanford White in 1884.
